Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Aaron Christensen of Horror 101 with Dr. A.C. wrap up “Scare-a-Thon 2020” with a look at Terence Fisher’s The Brides of Dracula! The October livestreams may be over, but Aaron shares the record-breaking funds he was able to raise in support of Chicago’s Boxville Marketplace—as well as helping to review one of the greatest Hammer vampire movies.

Also, Ian recommends Scream Factory’s just-released Blu-ray of the film, and invites listeners to check out the latest episode of The Spoiler Room podcast, in which he talks the Kevin Bacon revenge flick Death Sentence with Mark “The Movie Man” Krawczyk!

Episode 604 has a lot at stake!
